And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly
come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight.
Behold, He is coming," Says the Lord of hosts.
Malachi 3:1
I
Need A “Suddenly”
By Eddie T Rogers
I have heard it said,
“Confession is good for the soul.” Then how much more will it benefit the
spirit man? Rather than writing generically to those who might come across this
personal diatribe, let’s just acknowledge from the beginning, this is a
personal confession. And if I kept a journal, which I don’t, then you would
have insight into my personal thoughts. The balance will now be to make this
short, and profitable for the average viewer, and keep the ‘short stories’
for another day.
How
hungry can we be for the Presence of God? How desperate can I feel? At what
point do we cross an imaginary line of impending spiritual destitution to find
the manifest God of Break-Through?
Listen
again to the psalmist: (Ps. 42:1-4 NLT)
“As
the deer longs for streams of waters, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God
the living God. When can I go and stand before Him? Day and night I have only
tears for food…my heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be.”
What
this isn’t: A casual “I-can-take-it-or-leave-it” version of Christianity.
It is a place where words have ceased to be. There is no longer an utterance
left in the spirit man to verbalize. “Day and night I have only tears for
food.” What can make a man or
woman of God fall into this kind of spiritual despair?
When
we remember how it used to be.
Equally
so, it is only when we feel this indescribable, insatiable longing where words
are no longer sufficient that we attract the “suddenlies” of God. No
memories of past moves of God; of revival; or breakthroughs will ever suffice
what we desire the most: “I thirst for God the living God.”
When do “suddenlies”
come? Apparently, when you least expect them.
I
need a “suddenly.”
My
embrace,
Eddie
“Suddenly,
there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm in the
skies above them, and it filled the house where they were meeting.” Acts
2:2
